Marine Debris

Marine debris is human-created waste that has deliberately or accidentally been released in a lake, sea, ocean or waterway. Floating oceanic debris tends to accumulate at the center of gyres and on coastlines, frequently washing aground, also referred to as beach litter or tidewrack. Deliberate disposal of wastes at sea is called ocean dumping. Naturally occurring debris, such as driftwood, is also present, and adds difficulty to the collecting.

Participate!

Your participation takes about five hours on a Saturday or a Sunday, and your contribution will make a difference! All participants will be served a hot meal and a pair of high quality work gloves perfect for the task. A lot of useful information on the topic will be shared during the activity. The activity is free of charge, and you will be collected and returned by boat. More information available by the click of a button below.

Plastics

With the increased use of plastic, human influence has become an issue as most types of plastics do not biodegrade. Waterborne plastic poses a serious threat to fish, seabirds, marine reptiles and mammals, as well as to boats and coasts. Dumping, container spillages, litter washed into storm drains and waterways and wind-blown landfill waste all contribute to this problem.
